Detroit

11/26
Ugh. So it is quite cold out, high of 37 today. Gotta break out the longans and need to start searching for some rain gear, overalls, and better gloves.
But anywho, onward with another installment of this never ending, ridiculously drawn out description of this trip.
Left to find coffee. Found Cass Cafe, but are closed for holiday. Damn youu turkey!!
Biked around the corner and found Motor City Brewing, which turns out to be alot like Asheville Pizza & Brewing in that they have beer but they also have delicious pizzas and coffee. The pizzas aren't all that big but neither is the price. We played chess and drank coffee/beer for awhile. Liquid diet is where it's at y'know. Dark beer, coffee, juice, and water. Is there anything else, IS THERE?

Soon after that, we biked over to University Foods, which is a mediocre grocery store but their produce section doesn't suck too bad so we'll give it a 6 out of 10. Ride back to Erin/Amy's and made a small snack. They had suggested that they would be going to Slow's later and this sounded like a super idea. Sam had suggested it and nearly everyone else that had heard we were going to Detroit had suggested it so I figured it had to be worth it.
But first our host were going to a celebration at a store just around the corner from where we had eaten brunch. The name of the place is City Bird and I believe it to be a local arts store front due to the high number of handcrafted items found within. There could be a bit of printing involved too. Either way, there was free cake and beer and motown records spinning and a silly photo booth going on.
Here's a link.

Outside City Bird

Eventually everyone started to agree on heading over to Slow's so James and I began biking over there. It was still pretty cold out and a few random flakes of snow falling but it really wasn't all that bad. I had looked up directions earlier so I felt fairly confident in getting there too.
We made it but alas there was an hour and a half wait(because there was eight of us now) so we joined our new friends at a bar next door and waited around for our table.
Soon enough we made it inside and food insanity took hold.

Yep

James introduces his sandwich. "Hi, this is Nom and Ima nom"

I had a brisket sandwich and it was unreal. The mac&chz is superb.
I would compare it to 12 Bones, quality wise and Cracker Barrel in terms of atmosphere. As in lots of wood and nice lighting.

Pickleback shots? With spicy pickle juice? What is this?

And Erin, with one of her friends in the background and a neon tentacle flying through the frame.

From there we headed back to City Bird for more photobooth shenanigans, then back to the homestead for an invigorating round of PeePeePooPoo(TM).
For those who are not in the know, PeePeePooPoo(TM) is a highly sophisticated and adult game, similar in nature to Exquisite Corpse. Everyone writes a description of something at the upper edge of their individual piece of paper. This is passed to the left and the next person attempts to illustrate the phrase. The original phrase is then covered by folding the paper and then passed to the next person who then writes a new description. And so on...

Overall it was a good first evening in Detroit.
