Redwoods Part I

Woke up to a beautiful morning in Eureka after a fairly peaceful night of car camping. Although according to James there were crazy tweaker couples arguing all night. This was later reaffirmed by the tumbleweaves blowing down the street.
Breakkfast at the local Denny's.
Relevant:

Since we slept in Eureka we had to turn around and go about 50 miles back up the coast to get to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. It is not an unpleasant drive at all, lots of epic trees and lagoons. We stopped at one of the lagoons on the way to check out the camping status there. And walk around on the beach some more.
This is around 9am.

It was pretty tempting to try and hike/bushwack my way to the point off in the distance but then I realized it would probably eat up the rest of the day and we would never make it to the redwoods.

The beach here had really pretty pieces of agate strewn up and down the tide line. I found a couple of cool pieces of drift wood too.

A face in the side of a hill

Continue driving up the coast again.
Found the entrance to Prairie Creek. The visitor information center looked like it was under repair and vacated by park personnel so we just drove in to the park a little further until we found a trailhead that looked interesting.

OMG big trees

The crevices in the bark are so big that you can sort of climb up them.

Cooked up some foodinz and made some coffee before the hike. First use of campstove yet! Great success.

Entering the Ossagon Trail. It goes from the trailhead at the road, through some stands of old growth redwoods, over a ridge and down to the beach and marshes.

The trail

some smaller trees

So we made it down to the coastal trail... and had to cross a small creek, and then a much wider marsh section. This involved the removing of boots and wading. Not all that bad really, considering it was about 70*F out in February.

More marsh stuff. I noticed a few elk hoof prints in the area and was trying to keep an eye for them.

View of the forest from the beach.

Epic mist

Found da beach. again.

lots of crab shells around

These are really big. Those little chick & hen plants were growing all over it.

So thats all for now. More rocks and beach pics later.
